Share in $200 Million for Building Better Regions!

If you are a local government or not-for-profit located in regional Australia you could be sharing in the $200 Million Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).   Round 5 - closes on 5/3/2021, so start working on your grant applications.

There are two streams:

  • Infrastructure Projects - construction of new infrastructure, or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure

  • Community Investments Projects - Funds community development activities; expanded local events, strategic regional plans, leadership and capability building activities

Your proposal must deliver these outcomes:

  • Create jobs

  • Drive economic growth and

  • Build stronger regional communities.

Deciding if your project is ready?

1. Thoroughly read the funding application and attachments.  Look at the previously funded grant applications to get a feel for activities supported by BBRF for regional communities

2. You MUST have matching cash contribution

3. BBRF is all about creating economic benefits and community strengthening projects for regional and remote  communities. Now ask yourself how many of the government's project delivery criteria can your activity provide?  Have you got accurate costings?  Planning approvals?  Remember, your activity MUST be shovel ready!
4. Speak to your local Regional Development Australia team so they are aware of your proposal.  They can provide insights on how to pitch your proposal

5. If your proposal is not ready, wait till the next funding round.  This will give you time to prepare a well-developed project and funding application which ticks all the boxes for government:)

Building Your Story!

Start early! Like all good things it takes time to prepare a winning grant application.

To prepare a competitive proposal and bring your story to life include evidence (before and after scenarios) on the economic and social benefits. Many local governments subscribe to REMPLAN.  You can find economic evidence about your local government area (LGA) on your Council's website under the 'economic development' tab. Use this information to support your case.

COVID-19 impacts on the tourism industry

If you are applying for the tourism infrastructure projects contact your local Visitor Centre or LGA for up-to-date information on the economic and social impacts of COVID-19 on the local tourism industry.

If you are in Western Australia, contact the zonal tourism organisations like Australia's Coral Coast (ACC) or Australia's Golden Outback (AGO) for information on the economic and social impacts of COVID-19.

Good luck preparing your BBRF submission.
